Hypnotherapy for Pain, Medical Anxiety, Birth & Surgery Support

Clinical hypnosis in Newcastle for persistent pain, medical procedures, surgery and birth preparation

When pain or medical treatment starts taking over more than your body, hypnosis offers another way to work with the fear, bracing and anticipation that come with it.

Whether you're living with ongoing pain, facing surgery, preparing for birth, or dreading a scan, needle or treatment, the focus is : helping you feel calmer, better prepared and more in control.

When your mind understands — but your body still reacts

You can know a procedure is necessary and still feel panic before it. You can understand your pain and still brace for the next flare. It’s normal to feel concerned about the natural process of giving birth.

This isn't a sign it's "all in your head." Pain, anxiety is real, and repeated medical stress builds powerful, automatic patterns of anticipation and fear. Hypnosis gives us a way to work with those responses — not just with reassurance and willpower.

Find the support that you need most

  • Birth Preparation & Labour

Anxious about labour, a previous difficult birth, or wanting to stay calmer and more in control on the day?

  • Preparing for Surgery

Anxious about the anaesthetic, the operation or recovery, and rehearsing the worst long before the date?

  • Medical, Procedure & Needle Anxiety

It's the needle. The MRI tunnel. The waiting room. Fear that arrives automatically before scans, injections, dental or hospital procedures.

  • Support During Cancer Treatment

Repeated appointments, scans or effects of chemo — and wanting somewhere where you can just forget everything and feel more in control?

  • Chronic Pain & Fibromyalgia

Living with persistent pain, fibromyalgia or widespread pain — and tired of planning life around the next flare?

Sometimes they overlap. Sometimes they don't.

Pain, medical anxiety, surgery, birth and past healthcare experiences often overlap.

Someone preparing for surgery may also fear needles. Someone living with persistent pain may dread the next scan. Someone facing birth may be carrying a difficult previous experience. And sometimes the hardest part isn't the treatment itself — it's the waiting, the anticipation, or the bracing that starts long before.

You don't need to work out which category you fit into before reaching out. We start with what's hardest for you now, what you'd like to change, and what feels right to work on — and you stay in control of the pace throughout.

Where Clinical Hypnosis May Fit

Clinical hypnosis uses deep relaxation and therapeutic suggestion to work with the fear, anticipation and physical responses that can otherwise feel automatic.

A 2024 systematic review found hypnosis added some pain relief across clinical pain conditions.¹ Research into hypnosis before and during surgery has reported reductions in anxiety and some improved outcomes.² For medical procedures, a recent review linked hypnosis with lower procedural anxiety and pain compared with standard care.³

And for birth, a Cochrane review found hypnosis may reduce the use of pain medication in labour.⁴

So we use hypnosis realistically — as supportive care where it fits.
We can’t promise procedural-surgical or birth- outcomes obviously.
